Hello, all,
I was on this list briefly last year and then unsubscribed. I have been
growing iriss for 5 years, starting with 20 rhizomes that an online friend
sent. I'd have more but my growing space is limited to two whiskey barrels
right now, and they are both very crowded.
I live just outside Philadelphia and have two iris in bloom, both of which
opened on Sunday. I'm one of those people who gets up every morning and
checks them, and examines all the non-blooming rhizomes for signs of setting
buds.<G> Due to some bad labeling and a grub attack in 1998, I lost some of
my original rhizomes nad most of the ones I have left haven't ever bloomed,
so I have no idea what the flowers look like! (Does anybody have a source
for "Delirious"? That's one I know I lost and it sure was pretty!)
I do have a question. I have two that I'm sure are "Sunny Days" and I'd like
to cut one of them and put it in some water. I found some old (and very
helpful) messages about handling cut irises but my question is, when is the
best time to cut a stalk? This flower seems to have 2-3 buds per stalk and
right now one of the stalks has a flower in bloom (two days old) and the
other's top flower hasn't opened yet.
Thanks,
Cheryl Leigh
