RE: SHOW: Showing another's seedlings

Dear Friends,

I disagree completely with Vince Lewonski's statement above. I do not feel
the show table at some mall is the appropriate place to judge a seedling
worthy of introduction by looking at a single flower stalk. Nor is it an
exhibition judges responsibility to determine a plant's worthiness of
introduction, this belongs to the hybridizer, and only after careful
long-term observation. The plant must be observed in the garden in it's
totality. Judging a plant's worthiness by looking only at a single pretty
bloom will only take the entire genus into ruin. The prettiest flower could
be a massive rotter and harbor many other terrible characteristics that when
used in hybridizing would effect many future generations of flowers.

Nothing beats good old common sense when it comes to selecting a plant's
worthiness.
