V. sez:
This is a problem with the show schedule only - there is
nothing in the Judge's Handbook that says that seedlings
can only be entered by the hybridizer. I had this same
problem with a local club last year, and had the show
schedule changed (and approved by Dr. Roy Epperson) this
year.
The whole point in bringing seedlings is so the judges
may determine if they are worthy of introducing. Since
seedlings don't win ribbons, only ECs or Best Seedling,
there is no good reason not to be able to enter someone
else's seedling. This was an issue locally, since several
people (including me) have seedlings from local hybridizers
who have passed away. There's no way they can be entered by
the hybridizer now.
Of course, the hybridizer should be given proper credit
- I am not advocating passing off someone else's seedling
as your own.
