Hi,
The first thing that came to mind as soon as you mentioned "surrounding
grass" was Weed & Feed. Are you using anything on the lawn that might be
considered a weed killer? Aside from that, a number of beardeds will show
frost damage in this manner especially when daytime temps bounce into the
stratosphere.
