What Betty writes is true unless you are growing Dutch iris or some of the
less common varieties of bearded irises. I thought, and I may have it
wrong, that you might be growing Dutch iris from your original post. Were
they bulbs rather than rhizomes when you acquired them? For me, the Dutch
iris go dormant after bloom in much the same way as do tulips and daffodils.
Also may of my arilbreds, all the arils and most of the spurias go dormant,
though a bit slower. Some arilbreds and spurias go nearly dormant, but
retain some green in the foliage. This varies depending on the amount of
rainfall we receive and when we receive it.
