I have heard this with arilbreds. If you are crossing them to bearded, you want to use the arilbred as the pod parent so you'll have more arilbred characteristics in the seedlings. I don't know if it is a proven fact or not.
I cannot prove it in my patch, for sure.

If it ws a gentle rain, things are probably ok. If it was a storm
with heavy rains and winds knocking down stalks, the crosses probably
didn't take. Sometimes, it is necessary to stake your podded stalks.
