To force an iris to bloom, cut the stalk,
bring it inside where it's warm and put a
light over it, then blow down on the petals
until they open.
I remember Gerry Snyder blowing on a
5 foot tall stalk of Mesmerizer for 2 hours
to get it to open in time for judging, only to
get beat out by an IB named HI for Queen of Show,
Hi only had 1 flower open and after it was awarded QoS,
everyone spotted an insect hole in the backside fall that the judges
missed.
