Re: Re: AIS: Convention weather?

Home again, home again, jiggety jig, is what I used to play with my
gtrandchildren when we had been somewhere! This is, after the teasing at the
York Convention, the infamous Rosalie! Home, but not unpacked - some things
still in the car, waiting for someone to haul the stuff out! Yes, even tho I
live only 30, maybe 40 min. away in heavy traffic, from the headquarters
hotel -- I stayed there rather than commuting. My friends here laugh at my
"trip"
Mother Nature can really throw a wrench into things! -- In Denver we had
SNOW, In Oklahoma we had TORNADOS, In Dallas, I guess it was sensible, but
in York we had RAIN and more RAIN. If we were lucky, we were able to do a
garden without precipitation -- then rain until the next place. The worst
day was Saturday, but i was lucky/unlucky depending on how you looked at it
--- I had to come home and get my cat from the vet's - he keeps her as a
courtesy because of her age and a pill a day and doesn't want her exposed to
other germs -but with the double holiday it was better to take her home - had
to stay there alone overnight so I could get back for the banquet.
Originallyh I was sorry to mixx a bus-day --- but I was lucky in the long run
because it really rained! Surprisingly enough the gardens looked great, but
with all that work, it was a shame not to have better weather! Sterling
Innerst's iris won the Queen of the Show - Blue Rhythm - But the most
important was his making a clean sweep of the Presiden'ts Cup!! Both the
2nd, 1t, runners-up and the winner of the Cup!!! I don't remember that ever
happening before. Does anyone know?
2nd was GRUBSWITCHER (sp? - too tired to get up a check!) 1st was BRAZENBERRY
and the winning iris was ANVIL OF DARKNESS..
The Cook's Cup (for outside of region): 2nd runner-up was SOMEBODY LOVES ME,
1st Runner-up was Kerr's CHRISTIANA BAKER, and the winner was also Kerr's
QUEEN'S CIRCLE. They were all deserved winners, and they certainly had a
hard test of weather! Anmother iris that was entrancing was one name for
our only lady president -- Claire Barr: named LADY CLAIRE (Joan Roberts,
the hybridizer) It was a very different pink and beautiful - introduced
hoping that Claire would be there to see it, but she wasn't able to come.
The two Judges Training I attended were outstanding. Sterling Innerst for
TBs - and Roy Epperson on ETHICS. Anytime you have a chance to hear either
of these two, don't miss it! They have a commanding presence - accustomed to
giving lectures - have a sense of humor with it - don't pull their punches -
and there is something for everyone in what they have to say ---- and ETHICS
should be a must for every member, whether they are wanting to be a judge
or not!.

I commiserate with those who couldn't attend the convention. It was very
worthwhile in spite of the rain -- and after all meeting old friends and
making new ones is also part of it all!. Rosalie nr Baltimore zone
7 where it is forecasted to rain into midweek, - we will need that Ark!
