It appears to be more complext than that. One of my references lists
three different plants named Iris flavescens. One a synonym of I. imbricata,
one a synonym of I. variegata, and the other a probably synonym of I.
variegata. Another reference (probably less reliable) lists I. flavescens
as a hybrid often mistaken for I. imbricata. In any event, no one seems
to think it is a valid species name.
