Re:HIST: bronze, reb? unknown

Neil - Thanks for your thoughts on this unknown.

This particular "granny" had several long rows of just a few cultivars -
INDIAN CHIEF, SHANNOPIN, a yellow, and a white from about the same era,
plus this brown. Plus our ubiquitous very late unknown neglecta
diploidy looking thing. Since INDIAN CHIEF, SHANNOPIN and your and my
unknown neglecta seem to be grown everywhere, I had thought this is
another widely distributed one, but who knows. She also had one or two
plants of more recent things - LACED COTTON, and a "modern" variegata.

The photo I posted was taken after the flower had been pretty thoroughly
beaten up by rain storms. Will try to get a better shot.

Hadn't realized until looking at The World of Iris that browns were such
a relatively recent development. Maybe this is actually an older blend?

<I am tempted to suggest it is a local chance seedling that got passed
around
                   in the Knoxville area.

Just out of curiosity, do any of the Knoxville folk
remember an iris
grower/hybridizer that I believe once lived in the
Knoxville area by the
name of Andrew Moore? I understand he is in Texas
somewhere now.
