Sandra, Arnold and other of us in the coldest zones:
I also never mulch bearded irises and they do fine, well, at
least alright up here in the snowy mountains. I did have a few
TB losses this year and, of course, they were the newest ones.
We did have a unusual period this Jan. of little snow and some
of the tender TBs gave up the ghost. None of the Medians died
and, of course, all the Siberians and the Japanese irises look
like they are growing happily. This is still early for us but
the ground is thawing out enough that I can dig and weed easily.
I lost one of Kasperek's intros (rare for here)and his 'Toucan
Tango' looked dreadful and when I touched the rhizome to see if
it was squishy, it squirted white stuff! I left it there as is
and today, it looks and feels OK and it is growing green. I felt
like I had lanced a boil and it is thanking me.
**St. Louis**
I spoke to Rita Gormley today (whose garden is on tour at the
St. Louis convention) and she said that bloom should be very
good next week. Rita is also hosting lunch for the tours at her
place and coupled with running the AIS Silent Auction, she is
one busy woman!
To: Mr. Bill,
Any questions about printers in Malaysia should be referred to
Rick Ernst at Cooley's Garden. From what I have seen of Tall
Talk, it looks good wherever it is printed. The ads are pricey
and when you have good ad revenue, you are in a good position to
put out a quality pub.
