I read of an MTB, 'Crystal Ruffles' (if I'm
remembering right), that has a budcount of 14. It made
me wonder what other irises have high budcounts. I
guess there are two ways that budcount could be
increased -- more sockets [and/or more branching], or
more buds per socket. I've seen mention of aphylla
having potential to improve branching -- does anyone
have any comments about "3 buds per socket" types?
And what would be considered a high budcount
(currently) for each type of iris? (SDB, IB, BB, TB,
MTB)
For example, I have some diploid seedlings, from
pallida 'Kupari' X MTB 'Rosemarys Dream', that I think
would be in the TB height and flower size range. These
seedlings have 6 to 8 buds per stalk. Would that be a
high budcount, by TB standards? By MTB standards, it
would seem low (average at best).
