Connie,
I have some new neighbors and while there aren't any iris, they are
thinking about tilling up one of the beds and planting grass. It was
grass until the owner before them attempted to turn it into a bed. I'm
trying to convince them that with the right techniques it will be easier
to care for than grass. I'm not sure I have been very convincing.

I know the feeling Tom. When we sold our last house, I had about 1/2 of
what
you have & the people said they bought it for the landscaping. When I
stopped back up there to tell him about the plants (they were complete
novices) &
what was where & what care it needed, he had plowed up the top two tiers
of the
garden. I could have cried. I said, "If I had known you were going to
plow
this up I would have taken starts of all the iris & moved the peonies
out." He
said, "Well, it LOOKED LIKE A LOT OF WORK, so I thought I would till it
up &
plant grass." You can never tell what a person will do & besides I
thought
they paid a good price to be able to do that if they wanted to but still
it was
11 years of my hard work that had paid off well for me!
