RE: Culture: Grass in the iris beds; fertilizer

  This is my first year working for a CPA, so most of April was lost (7-day weeks and no energy to even venture into the gardens).  My question is: what is the best way to get rid of the grass that has taken root in my iris beds?  Should I wait until after bloom to put down something (what?).  There's too much for me to pull out by hand, and in one bed in particular that would be impossible (and if I tried after a good rain, I'd be trampling in a wet garden - not a good idea).  Any suggestions would be welcome.
   
  Also, regarding fertilizer: for a while I was using Cooley's, but it's cheaper to mix my own, as I did in the beginning.   I use 6-10-10 like it says in THE WORLD OF IRIS.  My rebloomers (I have many) get extra fertilizer after they bloom (no rot problems), and then liquid foliar spray once or twice in Sept. and October.
