Here in northern Utah there is no problem with growing
I. reticulata types - do well in full sun or under
high shade, and are essentiually permanent once
established. No varmint problems to speak of; voles
may eat the occasional bulb, but not voracious enough
to really notice. Tulips, which are a real problem in
this respect in many areas, multiply freely - I have
dozens of bulbs blooming now from 6 to 12 each of
several varieties originally planted 15-20 years ago.

Danfordiae lasted 4-5 years here, but eventually died
out. I understand it is notorious for this kind of behavior.
