We use the Brother P-Touch label maker and the T Z 1 inch laminated  tape. We 
like this method very much but they're expensive. Also we found  that if we 
use an old label that has been cleaned off, the old name will still  bleed 
through so we only use new labels.
 We use these on our personal labels but for the potted plants that we  sell 
we use the cut up mini blinds and a pen we get from the Gardeners  Supply Co. 
catalog. It is a garden marker for outdoor use that is water &  fade 
resistant. Now this pen is not as good as the old latex paint pens I used  to use (but 
can't find anymore) but much better than anything else  I've tried.
