Re: iris change color over time?

This question comes up on a regular basis. No evidence has ever been submitted that supports the actual changing of color. I agree with your answer. Extensive discussions can be found in the archives.

I've been growing irises, thousands of registered and introduced irises, over the past 25 years.

Not once has an iris changed color in my garden. Some tint variation is normal depending on soil chemistry and temperatures. Deeper, darker, or lighter. But not a change from some color to white.

Subject: [iris] iris change color over time?

I have been told by older gardeners in my area that iris will change
color - usually to white - if several varieties are grown in the same
bed. I don't believe this. Personally I think the most hardy variety
will eventually take over the bed as the lesser hardy varieties die out.

But I need to know if I am right or wrong and I need to be able to back
up my answer - one way or another!

I'd appreciate any information.
