Re: HYB: REB: Genetics

I hate it too. Is it maybe part of "the median influence" in these tough rebloomers?

Imm is terrible - this year, I had three clumps (one ten year old sprawling mass, one with maybe 20 fans, one with a dozen or so) that put up zero stalks, two clumps that must have 30 fans each that put up one stalk in one, two in the other, and one clump that probably has 20 or more fans and put up half a dozen stalks.

About half of the CSONG kids from IMM are just as bad. But half are closer to "normal". "The Weed" and "The Weed's Sister" are as bad as IMM - <lots> of foliage and few stalks.

I don't dig and reset regularly, so am not sure how relevant it might be to more typical gardening.

I've often wondered if IMM needs all that extra foliage to support the main blooming fan....

Fortunately, that trait doesn't necessarily carry over to the kids.

Short answer to your question? I haven't counted, but my guess is it averages from 20:1 fans to stalks to around 50:1, assuming it bothers to bloom at all.

<Linda, How does IMMORTALITY rate on fan to stalk ratio, in your garden? I find it quite frustrating when an iris produces lots of fans but few
stalks.
