Chuck, are you asking about the tutoring that is given to  an Apprentice 
Judge--the one-on-one session, or a general group garden  training session 
given to multiple irisarians at  once?....they are two different things, and I 
think the answers given so far may  be confusing the two.
 
The one-on-one training for an Apprentice does not involve a formal test,  
but rather a dialogue, I believe. At least, that is the way our Region has 
done  it. And, I see no mention of a test on p. 6-7 of the Judges Handbook.
 
The general garden training, given especially at conventions and other  
group outings, is for anyone, not just an Apprentice, and that does require a  
written test, is my understanding. P. 3-4 is relevant.
