Interesting, Eugene.

I have always assumed early rotten roots, aborted terminals, and rhizome losses from purchased rhizomes was entirely climate stress and cultivars poorly adapted to the local growing conditions. I. e., cultivars selected and/or plants grown in cliimates with low humidity, pumped full of irrigation water, totally unprepared to live with high humidity, heavy dew, erratic soil moisture and lack of insecticides/fungicides. I've always just let them die in peace :-(.

It would be really interesting to see if the same cultivars coming from a climate closer to yours would have any of the same symptoms. Or if you could compare bleached and unbleached cultivars from the same source.

From the photos you've posted, it's clear to me you have a much greener thumb than I do - beautiful plants and blooms on cultivars I haven't been able (bothered enough with?) to keep alive here. My iris growing interests are focused on breeding and selecting plants that will thrive here with neglect, so I won't change what I do, but still, it is an interesting idea that bleach soaking may contribute to shock of moving to a different environment.
