CAT/ Mary's Garden 1997 Catalog---Da Capo

Greetings,

I posted this information a couple of days ago but as far as I am able to
determine it either did not go through at all, or was received selectively. I
can find no one who received it, and we didn't either. I have, therefore,
decided to post portions of it again. Seems the best course.

Greetings,

I called Mrs. Huggins of Mary's Garden this evening to ask her when she
anticipated sending out her 1997 catalog. She says the catalog is next on the
agenda after she gets 125 freshman English term papers graded and she intends
to have it in the mail in a week or two.

I have received communications off-list which suggest I should repost my
initial note. I wish to reiterate that I have not yet done business with this
concern, and cannot offer assurances of satisfaction.

Subject: Catalog-Mary's Garden

Greetings,

I have been really ambivalent about posting this information because I have
only recently been given a copy of this catalog, and I have not done any
business with these people and cannot, therefore, vouch for their service or
product, but it seems this source is a well kept secret in irisdom and a
potential treasure trove, particularly for those seeking older bearded
cultivars.

Mary's Garden in Hico, Texas, offers a catalog that runs thirty six single
spaced pages, newsprint, no pictures. It is mostly older bearded cultivars,
many historic, including what Cameron Hall, the HIPS Source Chairman, informs
me are very rare irises. The offerings span the century and include a few
newer things as well. It's pretty amazing.

The catalog lists cultivar, date, a brief description, bloom season and
price. Prices and shipping are reasonable. Minimum order in 1996, ten bucks.

I spoke to Mary Huggins today and asked if she would object to my posting
this information. She welcomes your requests for catalogs. The 1997 catalog,
which will be two dollars, refundable on first order, will be out in April,
or May at
the latest. Mrs. Huggins, who is waiting to retire next year before doing
much advertising, is the Show Chairman for her local Society and that may
influence when she can get it out.
