Re: SPEC: was Re: mystery iris

Anna Mae

You asked "Do you know anymore about I. sanguinea you got from him."

At the moment, the answer is no. Bruce is changing his e-mail address
at the moment and so that I cannot ask for more information. I have
found that some of the plants are mis-labelled. For example, I have
just spent all day trying to identify a small bearded (15cm) that has
burst into flower. It still thinks it is in southern Ontario as my
plants are just showing the first signs of buds. This plant appears to
be pumila, although it was labelled kamaonensis. What struck me was the
very strong scent. I identified the scent as almond with a little
licorice but others have suggested vanilla. I have difficulty with
defining smells and colour so I am not sure. I do know that it is
surprisingly strong. The plant has about 10 blooms on a 18cm across
plant and is a real delight.

It seems unlikely that I will you be at AIS 97. Because of rebuilding
my home in order to add a conservatory, I have to re-build a large
section of my garden and we are just about to enter the flowering season
here.

Best wishes

Ian
