Not really in the neighborhood but in my back forty is EDNA'S
WISH. This is a 1983 introduction of Jim Gibson's (THE plicata man)
which recently has been praised by Stockton Iris Gardens. I decided to
get it last year, and its bloom yesterday before the windstorm really
gave me a jolt. The R & I says EW is a ruffled orange with a violet
cast. To me it is a fiery pinkish orange, more orange in the standards.
Blooming on the same day were FIREBREATHER and VOLTAGE. EW has these two
newer introductions beaten by a country mile. I am so thankful to Abe
and the folks at Stockton for offering EW for those who missed her the
first time around back in the 80's.
MOONLIT SEA, Sass 1943, also is open. The butter yellow hafts really set
this one off. It has pollen, and I am tempted!
BEDFORD LILAC, an SDB, first bloomed down in the fan on 3.26. Now there
are two tall 'rebloom' stalks coming on it.
SPRINGTIME SNOW, a JI, is showing color.
My first Jacobian lily is in bloom. Is red the only color available?
Lots of daylily scapes coming. STELLA D'ORO has been blooming for a week
and a seedling will give maiden bloom tomorrow.
The above are the things that have impressed me the last two days.
