Mable: This iris list is good and bad for just these reasons.... those of us
in the Great White North read about all the bloom across the country... then
go out to our pathetic gardens and find little joy.
A quick tour of the Guest estate this morning shows several TB rhizomes
'belly up' (literally) and gone to their reward. Furthermore, there are
others looking pretty oozey.. others raggedy and others just plain
despondent. Last year I wrote a poem called "Iris Anxiety" that listed some
of the worries and anxieties that haunt us this time of year... and which
will vaporize during actual bloom.
You SHOULD be seeing, however, strong green growth on your beardless irises -
especially siberians and japanese. Pseudacorus also thrive on the kind of
abuse we heap on them in the north. Cold? NO PROBLEM. Wet?? LOVE IT.
So... for those of us who are almost rigid with despair and envy when we read
about irises leaping into effortless growth and bloom .... a good stand of
siberians and japanese will surely take the curse off.
Kathyguest... who couldn't decide what kind of topic header to put on this
ramble. Maybe OT? Maybe OTB? Maybe BLT? LSMFT?
