Hi Iris Friends,
Here near the central coast of California our bloom season is almost over.
But between the profusion of BREAKERS and two stalks of I. whatever, I also
am enjoying Columbines in a bright blue-violet at the foot af a 4 foot red
Geum. My pacific blue giant Delphinium is just popping out but my neighbor
has six or eight in full glory. My California Native garden has 2 different
penstemon and monkey flower going gangbusters with hummingbird sage and 5 or
6 different dudleya in full glory. All this on a 50x150 lot, most of which
is house and parking lot. Good thing I don't have more space or I'd never
get my ironing done. >

For you northerners: Keep writing about your blooms, it allows those of us
whose spring bloom is past to still enjoy the thrill!
Which brings up the question of Re-bloomers. Does this mean that a new
rhizome is formed during the growing season and blooms later, in the summer?
Early on this spring we had greater than average rainfall, then, before the
winter rainy season should have been over, it just dried up. Our fire
season has started several weeks early. I've been watering my irises extra
since most are in bright, full sun. They sure seemed to do well in response
to the h2o. Anyway, how may I encourage "reblooming" in terms of water,
fertilizer etc.?
