A few of mine were also huge: SKATING PARTY, JUAN VALDEZ, PEACE AND HARMONY,
CLOUD BALLET and my winner Saturday, RIVERBOAT BLUES. The flowers of
RIVERBOAT were 9 and 1/2 inches across, without lifting the falls.
J. VALDEZ' were even bigger. Gorgeous! I attributed it to the good
conditions and care: new top soil with mushroom compost last summer, bone
meal and triple 16 at planting (July / August), triple 16 in February,
alfalfa pellets over the ground in March, just before the last rain, and
good pest control. With all that and excellent central coast of California
weather this year, you ought to see some results!
Joe Ghio says he hasn't seen bloom like this year since the two years of the
bad drought, a few years back.
