Last fall late, I purchased a few Wal-Mart 'bargain' irises as
there were a few empty spaces in the beds here and there. If anybody else
did likewise, I am wondering if the plants bloomed true to name.
The following relates to the above subject.
I bought 'Orange Parade' and added it to the historical bed. When
the buds tipped color and showed hints of ruffling and lace, I knew it was
mislabeled. What I got is a breath-taking apricot with a white fall spot.
It opened three at a time with ruffles and lace and could have won queen
of the show if it had been entered. It looks somewhat like Schreiner's
APHRODESIAC, but the picture in the catalog appears pinker and the white
patch to be larger. Does anybody have any ideas?
For 'Walking Tall' I got a lacy magenta with a red beard. It is a
very nice iris, but, again I do not know what it is.
'Night Edition' was packaged three to a box. I knew immediately
there was an error because one of the rhizomes had purple based foliage.
Out of the clump of three, I got two rhizomes of GAY PARASOL. Since the
one with pbf did not bloom, I pulled it and discarded it.
I am thinking about calling Wal-Mart's 800 number to complain.
