     Thank you for the information.  I see now what you were getting at. 
When Iris "X" is known for producing quality seedlings, so you get Iris "X"
to cross with something else, then the quality of the seedlings is
disappointing you re check the identity of said Iris "X".  You then find
out that Iris "X" is really Iris Z which is known for producing low quality
offspring.  You thus dispose of the seedlings.  Point Understood.  Thanks.
