BUDDY MITCHELL (Robert Norse)). Early -Midseason. 30 inches. (I. hoogiana x
Lullaby). Self of Methyl Violet, plate 39/2 Royal Horticultural Color Chart.
Two branches and a terminal carry 7 to 8 flowers, 5 1/2 inches wide by 4 inches
in height. Standards closed, falls flaring and have a tiny white line at tip of
bright orange beard. Pollen fertile and sets seeds easily. This may bring new
vigor to the violets, blues and flamingo-pinks, and is introduced for these
purposes. Both Mrs. Mitchell and Prof. Mitchell selected this flower to be
given the endearing name Sydney had for his sweet wife Rose.
Checklist afficionados will undoubtedly notice that this does not match the
registered pedigree, which is (I. hoogiana x Lullaby X (I. hoogiana x
Lullaby). LULLABY was a David Hall introduction, an orchid pink from the line
that produced his famous flamingo pinks in the next generation.
The catch? Finding a compatible mate for it. The regeliabreds, as a class,
have fallen out of favor.
