Another approach to moving photo targets is to use an electronic flash
held off camera or using a white or foil reflector to give the subject
some modeling. On-Camera flash tends to produce flat and uniteresting
images.
The effective shutter speed for even the least expensive unit is in the
neighborhood of 1/1000th of a second. More expensive units with
automatic exposure will yield shutter speeds approaching 1/50,000th of a
second. That's fast enough to stop a speeding bullet so a wind blown
iris blossom should be no problem.
