Welcome back to the list, Rima! I have had the same experience with
lupines, and seen references in the gardening literature that the
horticultural kinds are considered to be short-lived perennials

This reminds me that I need to spread the slug bait around my hostas before
the leaves fully unfurl if I am not to wind up with Swiss cheese plants.
