There has not been much JI talk in my memory on the list but there is a
grower who is active (probably very busy shipping just now).
Their catalog offers a collection from which you can choose from over 300
listed JI - or you can ask them to choose for you. I did this giving my
location and conditions. I also added what sort of flower and colors I
thought I'd like (my first order of JI). The company Ensata, and it's
owners chose the cultivars for me and I received the order a few days ago.
These plants were wet and green and packed perfectly. They are each labelled
and packed in a way that you can plant w/o cutting strings and wires and
fussing about.
Great when you are a spring hurry as we are in the northeast. We seem to
have about 10 minutes from thaw to bloom.
This might be a good way to begin. The nursery is:

I think you can get the catalog by e-mail request - Ensata@aol.com
In my area you cannot buy named cultivars of Japanese iris, a few by color or
labelled "mixed" are all I have ever seen so a very good catalog supplier is
the way to go.

East Nasssau, NY zone 4 Berkshire area - still cool and cloudy, I think we
had one or two spring days or it may be just bad memory.
