A May snowstorm is usual here, however, most years its been and gone by now. My daffodils, most tulips, primroses, violets, etc. are nicely cocooned under the snow (which we leave on as an insulator). In fact, my geraniums(which I foolishly planted) will be alright. Most people tend to forget that the further north you go, the longer the days in summer. Sunrise is around 4 and sunset as late as 11, so although our frost free days are less than further south, we pack as much sunlight into them!
July and August are often very hot (July is equally often very rainy).
We may get a hard frost in September, but I have had plants in bloom
until October (our Thanksgiving) which is late for here. Speaking very
generously, my growing season can be as early as the end of April and as
late as the middle of October! Realistically, in bedding plant terms,
spring starts after May 20 and summer ends on Labour Day.
