Hi Everyone--
While I don't dare complain about the weather after what we've heard
from Alberta, Canada, I must say I am sick of trying to get plants in
when it's pouring, windy, and hailing. And cold!!!! So I'm going to
complain.
I was told by my friendly nursery lady today NOT to put in the Queen
Victoria Lobelia Cardinalis I bought today to make friends with my bog
irises (LAs kindly sent to me by a friend). However, she forgot to say
anything about the new CHARLENE STREWAN water lily. I thought it would
beautifully balance out (sort of) with its lovely yellow flowers the
pseudacorus bravely raising itself on one end of the pond, but I heard
it shriek as I slipped it under the water.
My young garden helper and I froze our fingers finishing up the new bed
on the bank of the pond for the JIs I'm expecting from Ensata (I'm glad
they're late; less time planting in the cold).
The day lilies look terrible, some of the TBs are keeling over, and the
chives that I plant for the flowers as well as for the salad are limp.
The young pear trees are blossoming and will probably be blasted and
only one half of one of my 14 or so ancient apple trees has blossoms.
Another spring shot to hell.
I'm going to bed with a good book and a glass of wine.
