I hardly dare say after all the horror stories that here in Southern
Colorado we are having perfect iris weather. If only I hadn't somehow
managed to plant half of my 300 sq. ft of iris bed with a white iris (don't
know whether it is Swan Ballet or Winter Olympics). I had ceased to keep
track of names and had neglected the poor things for a while. Last summer I
dug them all; saved a good rhizome from each clump; soaked in Agri-Strip (I
had impending signs of mosaic) and carefully replanted. I had hoped to be
able to identify the majority from my old lists (mostly Dykes winners). I
have one lavender with a yellow beard that stands 40" or more that is at 10
different places in the bed, a violet that is gorgeous with white beard
that is in 5 different places and the white in 25 places.......I am NOT a
happy camper. I am charting them now and will leave two of each and dig the
rest...and start my buying list immediately!!
I am stumped by the fact I do not see any mention anywhere of the
Cook-Latham (??) - it used to be a prize for the best red of the current
batch of hybrids. Did it die a painful death? Or?? It is becoming obvious
that I have some catching up to do.....last bought irises in 1981!!
I am intrigued with the rebloomers many of you are mentioning. May be
something I will try. I do not care for the bicolors, but generally like
the plicatas and solids. Is there a definitive guide that has lots of
pictures with colors that are fairly true??
Sorry, did not mean to ramble. If National is to be in Denver next year,
I'll plan to go!
