Greetings Iris Lovers from the great state of Idaho!
I've been lurking on the list for about 3 months now and have wanted to jump in but it has taken some time to work up the nerve!
I have grown up with iris courtesy of my beloved grandmother whose iris I rescued from bulldozers. After she died the property was sold, her home moved and her huge, lovely garden bulldozed to expand a schoolyard. I literally threw the rhizomes in the back of our pickup truck in the middle of a blazing hot July and the miracle was that I didn't lose any. My garden is my 'memorial' to her and as a result I'm hooked on iris! This list has been a wonderful source of information, humor and inspiration to me and I thank you for sharing.
I have since acquired TB's mostly from Schreiner's (whose garden I visited two years ago...breathtaking place, thought I'd died and gone to heaven!), but thanks to the list have expanded my shopping list to include several other suppliers. Will also try SIBS and some species this July.
My TDF list would have to be TITAN'S GLORY, DUSKY CHALLENGER, SILVERADO also,of course, my grandmother's iris whose names I do not know but I suspect might be Opal Brown iris since (I'm fairly certain) she lived in Walla Walla at the same time that my grandmother did. I also remember (9 yrs old) visiting her garden and trying (without success) to pick my favorite iris!
Anyway, I joined the AIS. Received my bulletins (which are GREAT) and I am interested in starting an iris club here in Moscow but haven't a clue as to how to go about doing this...any ideas?
