I don't know about Texas gardening, but, if you want more water at the
tomato roots you could sink a piece of irrigation pipe vertically beside
the tomato plant. Drill some holes in the pipe and fill it with water.
Start with quite small holes and if necessary you can enlarge them.
Actually I doubt if the tomato plants would require enough water to damage
the iris.
