I have a rather insensitive nose, but the one iris I grow that always
attracts my attention with its fragrance is LEMON MIST (Rudolph, 72). I
would label the scent as "sweet".

There was some discussion on the list a little while ago about iris with
unpleasant scents. The worst stinker I have encountered is WEDDING VOW
(Ghio, 72), and I can name its scent, too - "skunk".

(Niswonger, 87) with 17 stalks on two clumps and only 2 of them stunted by
the frost last month that has affected so many cultivars here this year.
