SPEC-Salt Tolerance of Easten Bearded Species

Greetings,

If anyone has any information, scientific or anecdotal, about how tolerant of
salt the Eastern species Iris virginica, Iris prismatica and Iris versicolor
are, I would like to hear it. I'm propagating some natives with an eye to
planting them in or near a seasonal drainage ditch on some property my family
has on the Chesapeake Bay, but the ditch water is brackish to fairly saline,
and, while the pseudacorus I planted there as an experiment are flourishing,
it has occurred to me that others may have problems with the salt or other
minerals found in concentrations in saltmarsh areas. An Iris species
distribution map I have shows versicolor only in the western parts of the
State, and prismatica apparently just beyond the tidal line, with virginica
fairly widely distributed in the tidal areas. Anybody know anything?

Thanks,
