Chris,

I don't think there is actually a variegated I. cristata.  My speculation
was apparently a crude first guess based on poor morphological study on my
part.  I believe what I have is the common I. japonica variegata.  I guess
I need to study my species descriptions before making such announcements in
the future. :)
