Re: AIS: Membership Structure (long posting)

Jim, your ideas on the membership year are super, and I hope you
get the Board's attention.

It is always difficult explaining to members acquired at the show
how the 'AIS Membership Year' works. So many times, I have heard the
comment, when I sent in my subscription to SOUTHERN LIVING in March, they
did not send me the back issues for Jan, Feb, and Mar. Why should AIS?

Then at a rhizome sale in August when an interested party wants to
join AIS, I hate to discourage him by telling him to wait until December
or January because if he joins in August, he won't get what he is paying
for! This causes them to think, "Heck, what kind of society am I getting
into?" Our current system is a real turn-off.

Since Marilyn Harlow has a computer, I cannot understand why we do
memberships the way we do. It seems to me it would be easier to spread
the work out over twelve months than to do it all in December, which is
the holiday season anyway, and people are spending their money on other
things.

Sorry, I got so long winded.
