Please help with the following description. The little lady said it came
from the farm. Possibly it is a species. I color charted the bloom to
RHS 89 C. The bloom came right from inside the foliage. This is the
first year for mine to bloom. The foliage is strappy. It blooms just
about 7 inches off the ground. The rhizome is similar to LA. The bloom
has thin floppy standards one-half inch across at the widest point and are
about 2 inches from tip to center of bloom. Their color is the same as
RHS 89C with a tiny white center stripe, two-thirds long as standard.
The falls are about two and three-fourths inches long and one and
one-fourth inch wide with tear drop shape. The signal is quite
pronounced with white back ground and light RHS 89C veining. A yellow
highlighter looking mark runs out of the center of the signal area. The
stigma is tipped RHS 89C. It is a beautiful little bloom and seems
tempermental in establishing as I have had it about 4 years. I am USDA
zone 7 and have it blooming now. Hope all have a good time in Dearborn as
I had planned to be there, but my fall and broken wrists have made a lot
of changes in my life this spring. The casts are off and I am able to do
light weight tasks. No mulch or manure hauling. But lots to be
thankful for.
