Oh my oh my - CANTINA is opening - what a gorgeous lustrous flower with
all kinds of subtlety of color. The foliage doesn't seem to have had
much cold injury so might bloom for me in more 'normal' years. SUGAR
BLUES opened - what a wonderfully fragrant nice flower. This one
usually gets the terminal bud frozen and rotted out, but the plant lives
on. BUCKWHEAT has finally managed to bloom (2nd spring) - the bloom
looks kinda distorted, but maybe that's the way it's supposed to be.
GREEN AND GIFTED has turned into a GORGEOUS bloom. stalks are a bit on
the short side, & if that is freeze damage, it probably won't make it
most years. This thing opened with a lavender wash down the middle of
the falls, a slightly darker/clearer yellow faint rim around stds and
falls, & has been changing color ever since - now it's all pale cream
with bronzey brown beards.
You folks have had to listen to me gripe and groan about death and
destruction here for three years, now you're gonna get sick of hearing
all this euphoric gushing.
I'm not sure yet - need to take some notes - but it looks like some of
the late-bloomers that bloomed heavily last spring may not do as well
this year. The drought last summer may have been too much for 'em.

33oF again this AM - not cold enough to hurt the cayenne pepper plants
that I forgot to cover.
