I can't really say what is accurately an average for my TB and IB seedlings,
because every now and then, I rip the really poor dooers out and consign
them to the compost heap. I'm down to 80 now.
I'm seeing from 0 to 4 on my TB babies 12 months old. Most would have 2
increase. The IB's vary from 2 to 6, mostly with 4.
I don't feel that mine have grown as well as they could. There was a whole
bed (35 seedlings) that I lifted because I was suffering so many losses and
the growth was poor. These went into pots, and in a few short weeks were
doing better than the ones in the garden. I have just finished potting the
rest, and intend to tackle the problem of the poor soil and invading tree
roots in the seedling garden, before planting out more babies.
I have so much stuff in pots here that it looks like a commercial nursery.
The irises definitely love living in big pots.
BTW, I have seedlings germinating - the first 4 poked their heads through
the potting mix yesterday. I haven't counted todays yet.
Cheers, Jan Clark
