IMO, JESSE'S SONG (Williamson, '83) meets all the criteria you have listed,
except the last one, and fortunately it possesses all the substance that
could be desired without looking as if it were constructed from synthetic
materials. Amazingly enough, it also received the recognition it merited -
the Dykes Medal!
