Michael,
Iris kaempferi is an obsolete binomial for the Japanese Iris, now known as
I. ensata. Like many of the beardless irises, this species grows naturally
in seasonally damp or flooded meadows. It does not need or even desire to
be grown in standing water year round, though it does require ample
moisture from the time it starts to grow in the spring through the bloom
season, after which it can tolerate somewhat drier conditions.
