Actually, it won't grow in water. It would grow well on the bank of a lake
or creek but it will not thrive in water. I know, I know, you see those
beautiful pictures of Japanese iris in full bloom in a water setting, but
the Japanese flood the fields during bloom for the esthetic effect then
drain the fields.
I. ensata variegata (kaempferi is no longer used) will grow in full sun in
rich, acid garden soil with plenty of mulch and water and an azalea type
fertilizer in the Spring and just after bloom.
