These are all irises that I've had for at least 5 yrs, mostly growing in
3 yr or older clumps, that are blooming normally and are spectacular
this year in spite of the (as always) wierd weather:
ORBITER, INTO THE NIGHT, LACY SNOWFLAKE, SULTRY MOOD, HERITAGE LACE,
AFTERNOON DELIGHT, DUSKY CHALLENGER, JOYFUL NEWS, ?DISCRETION (looks
like), CELEBRATION SONG, STAIRWAY TO HEAVEN, GOLDEN APPLE, & a gorgeous
bronze 80s style that I don't have a name for. Orbiter, Heritage Lace,
& Afternoon Delight don't always put on this much of a show.
Celebration Song may be newer than 5 yrs here, but makes spectacular,
floriforous growth. I haven't tested its ability to keep blooming in an
established clump for more than 3 yrs yet.
Lacy Snowflake, Joyful News, Vitafire, Heritage Lace are buried up to
their knees in a solid mass of pinks & California poppies - wowser!
Amongst the new arrivals: I splurged on a new intro last year -
Schreiner's COUNTRY CHARM. It has put on a ton of increase and has 3
perfect stalks, had no freeze damage to the foliage, is still healthy as
a mule, but is going to be the last bloom to open, I think. I sure do
hope I fall in love with the flowers - it is one good grower here, but
not making rampant foliage instead of blooms. I've NEVER had multiple
blooms on a new rhizome before.
& two absolutely beautiful stalks of what has turned out to be lost
label SILVERADO have opened over the weekend. Maybe I'll keep it around
after all.
