What about SONJA'S SELAH? Its beautiful, a great grower, and distinctive.
Isn't that what a Dykes Medal winner should be? So, its a border bearded -
isn't it time we all started considering other fine distinctive irises for the
Dykes? Not that I have anything against Tall Beardeds, mind you - I grow and
love a lot of them, but in my mind, there are a large number of other irises
such as other beardeds, Siberians, Japanese, Louisianas, etc that are also
deserving of the Dykes. As we have been hearing on this list, some of the tall
beardeds that have won the Dykes may not have really been worthy enough for the
title. Did they win just because they were tall beardeds, when there were
irises in contention from other groups that would have been better choices. I
think that SONJA'S SELAH is one of those great irises that is worthy of the
Dykes. I have grown it for several years and its always top-notch and very
popular as well with visitors to my garden. So what say you all, can we put
SONJA'S SELAH on that short list for the Dykes this year?

taller every day.
