Re: OT-CHAT: 88 Keys in OKC

Lloyd:

I missed you here last week (and if you were here, I'll be REAL
embarrassed!). I even tickled the ivories at the opening banquet and
thought of you. My very first convention was in Roanoke in '74. My family
was too poor to pay my way to attend, so a very dear friend from Tulsa (now
deceased) paid for my plane ticket. My first time to fly. I had to go,
because I was to receive the very first Clarke Cosgrove Youth Achievement
Award. I vaguely remember you offering to let me play something. I can't
for the life of me remember what I played, but I do remember that your
girl's choir you had there from Radford entertained us that evening, and one
of the things they performed was Silent Strings. Remember? My high school
girl's chorus had performed that at contest earlier that year (I was the
accompanist for all the choirs in my small school). I was going to play
Silent Strings (the accompaniment -- without voices) last Wednesday night,
but it has too many "ripples" for my recuperating broken wrist! Guess you
made a lasting impression on me, because my (to date) only IB, introduced in
'79 (and went on to win the Sass Medal) was named Silent Strings.

BTW, my compliments to you for your Jean Marie, the finest yellow amoena
from this hemisphere.
